{"id":323,"date":"2020-08-19T17:46:27","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T15:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ilsancristoforo.com\/?page_id=323"},"modified":"2021-03-11T11:36:02","modified_gmt":"2021-03-11T10:36:02","slug":"visit-pompeii-archaeological-excavations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ilsancristoforo.com\/en\/hotel-near-mount-vesuvius\/visit-pompeii-archaeological-excavations\/","title":{"rendered":"Visit Pompeii"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The archaeological excavations of Pompeii<\/strong>\u00a0have yielded the remains of the\u00a0ancient city of Pompeii, near the hill of Civita, buried under a blanket of ash and lava during the\u00a0<strong>eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD<\/strong>, along with\u00a0<em>Herculaneum<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Stabiae<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Oplonti<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you arrive at the stop \u201c<strong>Pompei Scavi \u2013 Villa dei Misteri<\/strong>\u201d, visitors can take a walk to the ticket office, and then dive into the past along the ancient streets of Pompeii, visit the theater, the amphitheater, the baths, the houses of which were Roman patricians before the tremendous eruption in 79 AD and the magnificent frescoes which decorate them.<\/p>\n<p>The excavations began during the reign of Charles III di Borbone, one of the\u00a0<strong>best examples of Roman life<\/strong>, as well as the best-preserved cities of that era; Most of the finds recovered ( in addition to simple furnishings every day even frescoes, mosaics and statues), are now kept in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples and in small quantities in the Antiquarium of Pompeii.<\/p>\n<p>The considerable quantity of finds was invaluable to understand the uses, customs, eating habits, and the art of life of more than two millennia ago.
